Never, really. I was just someone who started doing it more and more. Eventually I was windsurfing more than working. I’ve never stopped working completely though – I have always done something alongside the windsurfing. You have so much down time that it’s a waste if you don’t do something else.

Team Gaastra Has Strong Showing at 2011 Bonaire PWA Event

Gaastra continues it's championship winning 2011 PWA World Tour run with an another amazing showing at the 2011 Bon Aire which was held on June 12th-June 16th. The event had some of the world's top freestyle windsurfers invading the coast off of Sorbon Beach, Dutch Netherlands Antilles for some intense windsurfing action. The 25 knot trade wins made for an exciting freestyle windsurf finale with Steven Van Broeckhoven and Kiri Thode fighting it out for the top spot. An unfortunate spill by Steven set him back a little which allowed Kiri to pull ahead with a  strong win over the rest of the heat. The combination of high performance windsurf sails from Gaastra and the expertise of the rest of the Team had members placing 4 out of the top 7 spots in the Men's division with Sarah-Quinta Offringa taking the top spot in the women's division. JinHa Beach, Korea Hosts 2011 Ulsan World Cup PWA Event

Gaastra Wins Big At Podersurf, Australia Windsurf Event

We have highlighted many of Gaastra's high performance windsurfing products during the history of Discover Windsurfing. We are now glad to highlight a major triple win that Team Gaastra achieved at Podersdorf, Australia just this past weekend. It was a hard fought competition in the Windsurfing Freestyle Men's division but we are glad to share that Steven Van Broeckhoven, Kiri Thode, and Davy Scheffers from Team Gaastra took the top three spots respectively. This up and down event came down to the very last run and by a slim margin and a fortunate pick up of wind speeds, Steven Van Broeckhoven was able to pull forward from the competition. Oxbow Ride The Sky Windsurfing Event Held in April 2011

I'm sure all your windsurfing trigger fingers are itching and the urges to toss off winter coats are just getting stronger and thankfully the Oxbow Ride The Sky Event is one of first of the 2011 windsurfing season. The Oxbow Ride The Sky Event will have a focus on height rather than tricks or speed with a hope of breaking the world record for windsurfing jump height. Dozens of the world's top windsurfers will be taken to the waves at Ho'okipa Beach Park in an effort to take the windsurfing industry to new heights. Starting April 1st windsurfers the likes of Kai Lenny, Alex Mussolini, and Thomas Traversa will be on call to take to the waves once the waters reach the best condtions for maximum height. Top Windsurfers Series - Kai Lenny

Over the next few weeks Discover Windsurfing will be highlighting some of the world's top windsurfers currently out on the waves today. First on our list is the young up and comer, Kai Lenny who is definitely a face to watch in the PWA Worldtour. Like many of the children of Hawaii, Kai began heading out onto the water at a very young age and took to the waves of Hawaii like a second home.  Kai has trained with such legends as Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama but has a ferocious technique that is all his own. Kai also represents Oxbow boards which is one of the biggest names within the windsurfing business and is a major supporter of the PWA World Tour. Kai is only starting his career and has already made a big name for himself so I can only imagine what this kid's future has in store.
